Setting Sail for a Brighter Future

With the help of the Legal Cup, 539 people benefited from a Sail 4 Cancer respite sailing day.

Sail 4 Cancer are the beneficiary charity of the Legal Cup. Sail 4 Cancer primarily provide sailing respite days for families affected by cancer, offering a day or week away from the nightmare that they are living through, providing a chance to create positive memories and enjoy some quality, fun time together.

Your generous donations, bids in the charity auction and prizes donated to the auction, all directly result in a direct contribution to Sail 4 Cancer.

This year, 539 people living with cancer enjoyed a respite opportunity with Sail 4 Cancer.  Below are a selection of messages demonstrating what a huge positive impact these days have on people’s lives:

“Having cancer is very frightening for both the patient and their family. Responding to the invitation from Sail 4 Cancer I really didn't know what to expect. What a day, it was fantastic. Equally as wonderful was the contact with other families who in the space of one day became sufficiently close as to hug one another as we left for home. Although it was just one day in time it was worth much, much more.” Ron

“My grandson Regan laughed and screamed as the yacht rocked on the swell of the waves. What a lovely sound, to hear him enjoying himself after being so ill with cancer and having to endure so much treatment and spend so much time in hospital.” Grandma of Regan age 11

“The break was just what we all needed. Life on treatment is tough not just for our daughter who is undergoing the treatment but for our family as a whole, especially her baby brother. Our weekend was filled with fun and laughter and we came home feeling happy and relaxed.” Mum of Alice age 4

“Trips like these help you to meet people going through the same thing and it makes you feel more confident in yourself again.” Leyla age 17

“Sailing is so engrossing that it takes your mind off day-to-day life. The children have had an unforgettable time, relaxed, and forgotten their troubles.” Dad of Abi age 9 & Emily age 12

"On behalf of Sail 4 Cancer and the 539 people living with the traumatic realities of a cancer diagnosis who were able to switch off, relax, escape, have fun and spend real quality time with their loved ones - a huge thank-you for your continued support.

This wonderful achievement has been made possible by the lovely people we work with: from the highly dedicated health and care professionals who nominate many of these very deserving families to our brilliant respite partners who go the extra mile to ensure our guests have the best possible time during their break. And all of this is of course made possible by our fabulous fundraisers, who ensure that we have the funds to offer our lovely beneficiary families the respite they so desperately need." - Cathy Jenkins, Family Liaison Sail 4 Cancer
