![]() ![]() | The biennial Rolex Fastnet Race is considered one of the world's classic ocean races, the 608-mile course a test for skippers and crews with its tricky tidal currents and changeable weather conditions. The race organised by the Royal Ocean Racing Club, with the Royal Yacht Squadron and the Royal Western Yacht Club starts on Sunday 14th August, off Cowes, Isle of Wight. With over 200 yachts taking part, yacht racers head west down the Solent and out through the Needles, past the major south coast headlands, Anvil Point, Portland Bill, Start Point, and Lands End rounding the famous rock and the Scilly Isles before finishing at Plymouth. Since it began in 1925, the Rolex Fastnet Race has grown to become one of ocean racings greatest events and along with the Rolex Sydney to Hobart and the Rolex Middle Sea Race is one of the top three offshore races in the world. Itinerary April 2011 Training Weekend The crew sails together for the first time and spends a weekend of training and yacht familiarisation. 2011 RORC Race 1, 2 & 3 Your first qualifying race to gain RORC miles. 13 August 2011 Pre-Fastnet Night Your crew gathers for the last night before the race starts. 14 August 2011 Race Start The Rolex Fastnet starts! The Yacht Beneteau 40.7 more info>> A comfortable racer/cruiser, suitable for all levels of experience. The Beneteau 40.7 can race with up to 12 crew and there will be a strong fleet of these yachts taking part in the Rolex Fastnet.
