THEIR IN!!

At 22:34:56h on the 11th December 2007, Combat completed their voyage across the Atlantic to finish the ARC Race in a very credible 16d 9h 54m 56s. This is the second fastest crossing in the ARC race to date for a Beneteau 40.7, second only to Britannia’s 2006 entry Lancelot!

Congratulations to the crew who finished 3rd on the water in class and who, I am sure, are eagerly anticipating the handicap results to be released to see if they will be picking up any trophies!!

Only 78 miles to go!!

At 1200h on the 12th December 2007, the crew on Combat only have 78 miles left to go. At present speed Combat should get into St Lucia in just over 10 hours. The crew have done a fantastic job sailing accross the atlantic and are currently lying in 3rd place in class before handicaps are taken into acount.

The crew will be going for the final push on speed now as they are only 7 miles behind their nearest rival and I am sure that all the crew will be looking forward to stepping ashore and sampling the Carribean hospitality!!

Combat is now over halfway and still putting in good millage. The last couple of days has shown an area of lighter winds hamper the front of the racing fleet. This has caused Combat to slow however they are now back up to speed again.

The latest weather reports for the area, shows High pressure centred near 35N 20W which extends into the central and eastern Atlantic. The high will be a strong, stationary feature through the weekend.

A weak, shallow low is centred near 23N 54W and is expected to dissipate today while a minor surface trough developing near 40W and moves slowly east over the next few days. This may increase shower activity.

Large area of trades now prevail and should do so into early next week across all areas. However the crews do need to be aware that even under high pressure, isolated squalls can develop and can give sudden and unexpected, strong gusts of wind.

Hopefully with this wind forecast Combat should arrive in St Lucia around next Tuesday. I am sure all aboard are looking forward to the ice cold Rum Punch!!

Combat has had a great start in the ARC 2007 race from Grand Canaria - St Lucia. The latest position reports have Combat in 1st place in Racing Class B and up with the faster yachts in Racing Class A. In the last 24hours Combat has covered 176 miles whilst others in class appear to be over 1 knot slower than them over the same period of time.

2007 sees the third year in a row that a Britannia Corporate Events crew has sailed across the Atlantic in the ARC. In 2006 Lancelot stormed across the ocean and set a new record time for a Beneteau 40.7, 15 days, 10 hours, 23 minutes and 50 seconds, this was over 34 hours quicker than any other 40.7 had done the crossing!! Can Combat go quicker?? Who knows but good luck to the crew!!!
