NEW WORLD RECORD TO BE SET ON THE BIG V SAIL
6.04.06

Britannia Corporate Events is delighted to have teamed up with Virgin Money to launch the most exciting addition to the sailing calendar for years! The Big V Sail is a fantastic new race from Portsmouth to Cork, offering sailors an exciting new offshore race and creating an innovative and practical Cork Week feeder race for those yachts entered into the world famous Cork Week regatta. The race will also set a new Ocean Race Record, guaranteeing that in the race's inaugral year in 2006 a new world record will be set by one of the crews.

Designed as a warm up to Cork Week, the Big V Sail will set off from Portsmouth and Plymouth to skim the seas to Ireland where a party and prizes await.

The Big V race overall winner's result will be recorded by the World Sailing Speed Record Council(WSSRC) in their race records list. Crews will be able to challenge this record in subsequent Portsmouth to Cork races.

The Big V Sail will raise money for Virgin's Money’s charity partner Everyman and all crews will be encouraged to raise sponsorship money for the charity.

World famous yachtsman Ian Walker, pictured right, is one of the many sailors and celebrities that are supporting the race and the race's charity partner.

The race is open to yachts heading for Ireland for Cork Week, as well as other yachts that simply wish to compete in the race and challenge for the new Big V Sail Ocean Race Record.

Britannia is also offering a service to match individuals wishing to enter the race with yacht owners and skippers looking for crew for their yacht.

Virgin Money has created a dedicated website for the race, which can be accessed at www.bigvevents.co.uk
