![]() ![]() ![]() | SVB HOLDINGS TAKE LUTINE LINESLIP HONOURS 10.06.05 After two days of racing in near perfect conditions, SVB Holdings, sailing on the Beneteau 40.7 'Tarka', took the Division 1 title and the Lloyds Silver Galleon as the overall regatta champions. On Wednesday 8th June over 140 members of the insurance markets, on 15 yachts, converged to race in the 6th Annual Lutine Lineslip Regatta, the annual regatta of the Lloyds Yacht Club. The first day saw glorious sunshine and steady breezes combine for excellent sailing conditions. After the morning training session the first two of the series of five races took place. A course with several spinnaker runs immediately tested the teams' training and set the tone of healthy competition that was to characterise the regatta. In Divison 1, Allied World Assurance (AWAC) took line honours, but SVB Holdings took the victory on handicap. Hiscox also had a good race, pushing AWAC into third. In the Open Division defending champions ACE European Group had to settle for a second place as the team from HSBC Insurance Brokers on Jonathan Proctor's Starlight 35 'Blue Bat' took the first race. ![]() Race two saw the roles reversed in the Open Division, with ACE taking line honours and the race win, leaving HSBC and ACE as the two front runners overnight. Race two in Division One saw FPS Group, Ince & Co and Post Magazine take the top positions and create an overnight standing with at least 5 teams in prime position to take the series the following day. After the regatta dinner at the Royal Corinthian Yacht Club, teams awoke on the morning of the second day to find plenty of sun but no wind. Race 3 was abandoned as a result, but sea breezes allowed the final two races to be completed. The first race of the day saw ACE and HSBC continue to dominate the Open divison, taking first and second respectively. SVB Holdings on the 40.7, FPS Group on a J109 and Hiscox on their 47.7 performed well to leave them in good standing for the final race. ![]() The final race saw HSBC level the series against ACE, but loose by less than 30 seconds across the entire series to ACE, allowing ACE to retain their Open Division title. The final race in Divison 1 saw SVB Holdings clinch the divisional title with another impressive victory. Their consistent performance saw them take the overall title away from defending Silver Galleon holders ACE. Gavin Stanley, team captain from SVB, commenting on his team's victory: "After two days of competitive racing SVB are proud to be winners of the Lutine Lineslip Regatta 2005. This was the first year SVB have participated in the Lutine Lineslip Regatta and we appreciated how well the event was run and managed by Britannia Corporate Events and the Lloyds Yacht Club. SVB are already giving consideration to the event next year where we look forward to catching up with all the other boats that raced this year plus new participants." Paul May, Commodore of the Lloyds Yacht Club commented: "It was excellent to see new competitors joining the event and the improved format with 5 races gave more opportunity for competitive racing. The sunny setting on the Royal Corinthian terrace was a perfect setting for the pimms reception and gave friends and crews the opportunity to mingle and swap stories."
