SAIL 4 CANCER APPOINTED AS MANCHES CUP CHARITY
9.01.06

Sail 4 Cancer has been appointed by Britannia Corporate Events as the official charity for the 2006 Manches Cup.

Simon Boulding, Marketing Manager of Britannia Corporate Events and the Manches Cup, commented:
"We are delighted to have adopted such a worthwhile and relevant charity to the Manches Cup. There must be very few families in the UK who have not been affected by cancer in some way and we look forward to raising funds that will help combat this disease."

About Sail 4 Cancer
Sail 4 Cancer was set up in 2001 by a group of keen sailors who have all lost a close relative or a friend to cancer in recent years. Sail 4 Cancer aims to raise significant funds for cancer treatment and research through the organisation of high profile sailing events. The charity also provides sailing opportunities for cancer patients, their families and people who have been recently bereaved, with the aim of improving quality of life.

Increasingly, however, Sail 4 Cancer is becoming more and more active in its secondary role, that of providing sailing opportunities for cancer patients and their families, and those who have suffered recent bereavement. Tall Ships, America’s Cup boats, Open 60’s and a wide variety of keelboats have all been used in the past to provide sailing opportunities of a lifetime. Sail 4 Cancer is also in partnership with Neilson and has funded 150 families to travel to Greece to enjoy a week in the sun sailing.

Our aim is to provide lasting memories through offering tranquillity and team building through mutual support. Moreover, we strive to give families living with cancer the opportunity to switch off from the reality of their every day lives, albeit for a short time. The feedback we receive from people who have attended our sailing trips has been an inspiration for all the people involved in making these days possible.

Some of the feedback…

“I cannot believe that you guys really comprehend what a difference you make. From providing us with a day our when we could all forget just a short while the awful thing that blights our life through to the inspirational work of raising the funds that will ensure more people survive or even avoid this terriable illness.”
The Battles.

“ My son Robert ( age 11) was diagnosed with Leukaemia two years ago, and it has often been quite difficult for us to enjoy life as we had expected. We were therefore thrilled when we were invited to sail from the Hamble to Cowes. It really was one of the very best days out. These sort of days make all the difference!”
Jo.

The dates for the 2006 Manches Cup have been set as 19-21 May 2006.
