Why settle for a set package when you can build a bespoke event around your team?
Perhaps you want to get colleagues together for some friendly competition, give clients a day to remember or bring your industry together to raise money for charity. A sailing regatta gives everyone something to be part of, with a shared challenge on the water and plenty to talk about afterwards.
At Britannia, we work with you to plan the whole event, from choosing the yachts and racing format to finding the right venue for dinner. No sailing experience is needed: our professional skippers help guests learn the ropes and take an active role on board.
Here’s how we build your regatta.
1. Start with your guest list
You don’t need a large group to enjoy close racing. A smaller event can bring two or three teams together for a series of short races, while a larger regatta creates opportunities for competition between departments, offices or companies.
Whether you’re inviting 10–20 guests, 20–40, 40–80 or a larger group, we’ll recommend a suitable fleet and format. We’ll also help you think through how to divide the teams, taking account of your objectives and any previous sailing experience.
Getting the balance right gives everyone the chance to contribute, from their first tack to the final race.

2. Decide what you want to achieve
The racing might be the centre of the day, but the reason for bringing people together will shape the event.
Competitive fleet racing
For groups who want a sporting challenge, we can build the day around race training and a series of races, with points to compete for and trophies to take home.
Charity and fundraising
Bring supporters, colleagues or industry contacts together for a charity regatta. We can plan the sailing alongside opportunities for fundraising ashore, such as a dinner, auction or prize draw.
Client entertaining and hospitality
Time on a yacht gives you the chance to get to know clients beyond the usual meeting room. Combine some friendly racing with good food and time to catch up ashore.
Team building and development
Sailing asks people to communicate, make decisions and work together in an unfamiliar setting. Everyone has a role, and progress is something the whole crew can see. We can also include meeting time or team development sessions as part of the itinerary.
Your event can combine several of these elements. We’ll help you find the right balance.

3. Choose your location
With options in Hamble, Southampton, Portsmouth and Cowes, we’ll help you choose a starting point that suits your guests and the event you’re planning.
Travel arrangements, accommodation, shoreside venues and the time you want to spend sailing all play a part. You might prefer a straightforward day event from the mainland or a longer itinerary with an overnight stay in Cowes.
We’ll advise on what works best, so the sailing and shoreside plans fit comfortably together.
4. Make it your own
The details around the racing can make just as much difference to the day. You might want to start with breakfast and a briefing, enjoy lunch afloat between races, then finish with drinks and a prize giving.
Or make more of the occasion with a private dinner and an overnight stay.
Options include:
- Breakfast or refreshments on arrival
- Lunch afloat or ashore
- Private dining or a gala dinner
- Prize giving and trophies
- Branding- on your yacht, clothing or at the venue
- Photography on and off the water
- Meeting spaces and team development sessions
We’ll help you choose the elements that add something to your event, with enough time to enjoy them.

5. Set your budget
An early indication of budget helps us recommend the right combination of yachts, sailing time and hospitality.
We’ll talk through your priorities and put together a clear proposal, showing what’s included and any optional extras. If you’re still working out the budget, we can help you understand the options before you decide.

Let’s plan your regatta
You don’t need to arrive with a finished brief. A rough guest number, an idea of what you want to achieve and a preferred date are enough to start the conversation.
